It’s reported that two Thai nationals, wanted in Thailand for drug offenses and arrested in Tachileik, Myanmar, on July 1, have been handed over to Thailand in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on Myanmar-Thailand Cooperation on Drug Control.According to the information shared by Thailand's Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) to Myanmar's Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC), requesting assistance in investigating, identifying, and apprehending Mr. Techin Nowong and Mr. Chamang Kanthawong, two individuals who committed drug offenses in Thailand and fled to Myanmar.Acting on this intelligence, the Drug Enforcement Division of Myanmar Police Force investigated and arrested the two wanted fugitives on July 1, 2025, in the Pa Sat Ward of Tachileik Township.In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on Myanmar-Thailand Cooperation on Drug Control, the CCDAC team led by Police Brigadier General Thant Lwin Maung, Joint Secretary of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control and Commander of the Drug Enforcement Division, officially handed over the two wanted individuals to an ONCB team led by Police Lt-Gen. Phanurat Lukoon, Secretary-General of the ONCB, at 2:30 PM Myanmar Standard Time on July 16, at Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge (2).According to the Myanmar Police Force, this mutual identification, arrest, and handover of fugitives who commit drug offenses and flee across borders to continue engaging in transnational drug crimes, under the bilateral drug cooperation program, will not only strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries but also enhance the effectiveness and success of regional drug control efforts.mitv
