Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win visited the new 4-storey treatment building of New Yangon General Hospital on Thursday.

The Union Minister inspected the relocated the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, outpatient and inpatient wards, modern rehabilitation equipment, and teaching rooms for medical students. He encouraged hospital staff to continue providing quality care and supported their daily work needs.

At a meeting with hospital superintendent and health workers, the Union Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering accessible, free essential medicines, diagnostic tests, and treatments. He praised the dedication of medical staff and urged ongoing cooperation to serve patients warmly and effectively.

The outpatient Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has been operating since April this year, offering daily rehabilitation and treatment services from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As a gesture of humanitarian support, the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) of Brazil donated 500,000 doses of the BCG vaccine, valued at around US$90,000, to Myanmar for use in the immunization programmes of the Department of Public Health under the Ministry of Health.The vaccines arrived at Yangon International Airport yesterday afternoon via MAI Airlines. The BCG vaccine needs to be administered to newborns within 24 hours of birth. If it cannot be given within the first 24 hours, it can still be administered either before the infant reaches two months of age or together with other vaccines at the age of two months. 2025 BRIDGE Summer Camp : Myanmar youth delegates join the camp in Japan
A group of six Myanmar students is currently representing the country as Junior Ambassadors at the 37th BRIDGE Summer Camp 2025, held from July 12 to 21 in Fukuoka, Japan.The international youth event is organized by the Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention (APCC), bringing together 190 children from 42 countries across the Asia-Pacific region. During the first part of the camp, the students stayed at the Fukuoka Marine House Camp, where they shared dormitories, participated in cultural exchange activities, visited local schools, and enjoyed meals together with other international delegates.As part of the program, the Myanmar delegates are now staying with local Japanese host families in a home-stay experience, attending school with Japanese children and engaging in classroom activities and cultural sharing.The Myanmar team is also performing the traditional “Nway Oo Kabya” Thingyan dance at the We Are the BRIDGE Festival 2025, scheduled for July 18, alongside performances by other countries. To promote the health, knowledge, and overall development of young people, as well as to foster youth sector growth, the Kachin State Youth Affairs Committee organized the Youth Five Strengths Development Festival at the indoor stadium of the People’s Sports Ground in Myitkyina and was attended by Kachin State Chief Minister U Khat Htein Nan and other responsible officials.The festival was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by the Chief Minister and accompanying officials.Following the opening, the formal ceremony took place inside the indoor stadium, beginning with a musical performance titled Peaceful and Pleasant Myanmar, sung by the basic education school students. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended the first twice-yearly injection as a tool to prevent HIV infection. The injectable prep drug is a long-acting alternative to the current daily pills and could make prevention more accessible globally at a critical time when such efforts are stagnating.Public health and HIV expert Dr Bridget Haire explained why the new drug is a game changer. Taking a daily pill can be burdensome, and it's easy to forget. A treatment that only needs to be administered twice a year has the potential to align well with other routines, such as injectable contraception, which is typically given every three months.This kind of regimen could significantly improve adherence to treatment, which is considered game-changing.
