Brazil donates 500,000 BCG doses to support Myanmar’s TB prevention
As a gesture of humanitarian support, the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) of Brazil donated 500,000 doses of the BCG vaccine, valued at around US$90,000, to Myanmar for use in the immunization programmes of the Department of Public Health under the Ministry of Health.
The vaccines arrived at Yangon International Airport yesterday afternoon via MAI Airlines. The BCG vaccine needs to be administered to newborns within 24 hours of birth. If it cannot be given within the first 24 hours, it can still be administered either before the infant reaches two months of age or together with other vaccines at the age of two months. This donation will support Myanmar’s efforts to implement its tuberculosis prevention programmes successfully. — MNA/MKKS
