A festival of pouring water on banyan trees dedicated to sacred Bo trees in commemoration of the Buddha Day which falls on the full moon of Kason 1387 Myanmar Era was held at the Maha Bodhi banyan tree in the precinct of Maravijaya Buddha Park in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory yesterday afternoon.

Before the ceremony, the Senior General and his wife offered flowers, water and oil lamps to the Maravijaya Buddha Image.
The Senior General and his wife, SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win and his wife Daw Than Than Nwe, the Council Secretary and his wife, the Joint Secretary and his wife, council members and their wives, Union-level dignitaries and their wives sprayed scented water and poured water on the Maha Bodhi banyan tree.
Yogies from religious association members also sprayed scented water and poured water on the Maha Bodhi banyan tree.
Under the patronage of the Senior General and his wife, Vice-Senior General Soe Win and his wife, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin and his wife, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Htein Win and his wife, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Tun Aung and his wife, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) and their wives, officers, warrant officers, corporals and other ranks and their families poured water on banyan trees at Lawkachantha Hsutaungpyae Pagoda in Zeyathiri Township.
Also present at the ceremony were, Union ministers and their wives, the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, officials and religious associations.
The full moon of Kason is the most significant one in Buddhism. It shows religiously prominent occurrences, stating that hermit Sumeda, the embryo Buddha, accepted a great prediction of Dipankara Buddha to become the Gotama Buddha in the Badda world. Moreover, Prince Siddhattha was born on the full moon day of Kason. The Gotama Buddha-to-be attained the Supreme Enlightenment at dawn of Kason full moon day. The Gotama Buddha attained Parinibbana on the full moon day of Kason. As such, these occurrences were recorded as the great prediction, birthing, enlightenment and Parinibbana. As such, Buddhists set the full moon day of Kason as a sacred day as the day becomes the greatest occurrences not only for Lord Gotama Buddha but for all Lord Buddhas. The water-pouring festival at banyan trees on full moon of Kason is not only a joyous and spiritually uplifting religious event worthy of merit, but also a celebration held as part of Myanmar’s cultural heritage. Min Thant, Face of Myanmar – 2024 Male Model Winner, was dressed in the style of Prince’s attire when he went out hunting in the forest. He was the lover of the mythical bird Manawhari.

He is holding bows and arrows, wearing a sash, a light headscarf, shoes and sandals,” he said. His re-making was aimed at reviving Myanmar’s mythical characters, and he was happy to find that young people have been recently interested in the clothing of ancient princes and court clothes.
“Now, I see many people taking this kind of dress seriously and showing interest. Models are recreating the styles of ancient kings, princes and warlords and competing, and it’s great to see people interested. It is the introduction of the LCDP scholarship and writing a research proposal, which is mainly required for applying and is scheduled to take place from 1:30 pm to 3 pm on 10 May at Times City.

1st stage of Chanthagyi Buddha restoration completed post- Mandalay quake

ACCORDING to Ko Aung Kyaw Kyaw, who is currently carrying out the work, the first phase of the restoration of the historic Chanthagyi Buddha statue in Mandalay, which collapsed due to the earthquake, has been completed.
The head of the statue was completely broken off due to the recent Mandalay earthquake. The restoration of the Buddha statue’s head would be carried out in stages, including rubbing off and polishing the face, applying resin, gilding, and installing a golden crown, he had previously said.

Myanmar flag shines on WBC, OPBF championship belts

WITH efforts by the Myanmar Boxing Commission (MBC), the national flag of Myanmar is now included on the championship belts awarded by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF).
Formed in 2024 with the approval of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Myanmar Boxing Commission has since organized professional boxing matches locally and facilitated the participation of Myanmar boxers in international bouts, including WBC-sanctioned events in Japan and OPBF matches in Thailand.

WHO emphasizes prioritizing oral health for better outcome

ON the occasion of World Oral Health Day, Regional Director for WHO South-East Asia, Saima Wazed brought attention towards the need for prioritizing oral health to tackle diseases and bring about positive health outcomes in South-East Asia.
“World Oral Health Day, marked annually on 20 March, draws attention to oral health being a key indicator of overall health, well-being and quality of life.
Oral diseases are among the most common noncommunicable diseases worldwide, affecting an estimated 3.5 billion people,” Wazed said.

ON the occasion of World Oral Health Day, Regional Director for WHO South-East Asia, Saima Wazed brought attention towards the need for prioritizing oral health to tackle diseases and bring about positive health outcomes in South-East Asia.
“World Oral Health Day, marked annually on 20 March, draws attention to oral health being a key indicator of overall health, well-being and quality of life.
Oral diseases are among the most common noncommunicable diseases worldwide, affecting an estimated 3.5 billion people,” Wazed said.

Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, accompanied by Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Commander of the Eastern Command, and other res ponsible officials, visited and delivered words of encouragement to officers, other ranks, and members of the People's Militia (Local) who are receiving treatment at the military hospital in Aungban Town, Shan State (South), this morning.

First, the Vice-Senior General and party arrived at the local military hospital in Aungban Town, where they were welcomed and greeted by the hospital commandant, military medical officers, and responsible officials.

Subsequently, the commandant briefed the Vice-Senior General on the current healthcare services provided to officers, other ranks, members of the People's Militia (Local), and local civilians, as well as other necessary requirements, in the hospital's conference hall. The Vice-Senior General provided guidance and addressed the necessary needs.

Following this, the Vice-Senior General and his entourage individually inquired about the health conditions of the officers, other ranks, and members of the People's Militia (Local) who were injured while performing national defence and security duties and are now receiving treatment at the hospital. They offered words of encouragement and provided food.

Similarly, the wife of the Vice-Senior General, Daw Than Than Nwe, and her entourage visited the women and children's ward, where they met with patients receiving treatment, offered words of encouragement, and distributed food.

Later, the Vice-Senior General presented gifts and cash rewards to the healthcare staff serving at the hospital, which were received by the responsible officials.

Asking about academics and accommodation for students, the Senior General stressed that students must be allocated at hostels systematically and arrange systematic housing and hostels for academic staff. As Yangon University (Bahan Campus) of the Information Technology University has fine traditions, it must manage academic measures benefiting the State, urging officials to beautify the university campus.

The Senior General viewed round the university and inspected the digital library system, training aid system, AI-applied training, practical works of students at K-Lab, and construction of supporting buildings, and gave necessary guidance to officials.
Arriving at Western Yangon Technological University, the Senior General heard reports on the accomplishment of the guidance given by the Senior General on his inspection tour in 2024, plans to construct more buildings for the university, systematical drawing of the areas of the university, the master plan for building the recreation centre, and beautification of the campus presented by Rector Dr Kyi Soe.
In his instruction, the Senior General urged officials to provide more facilities for the university in the coming academic year. A plan must be drafted to construct buildings in pursuit of the characteristics of the university. The campus of the university must be decorated with flowery plants and trees.
He inspected the progress of a three-storey lecture building, the construction of lecture halls and a stadium. At Bayintnaung Park, the Yangon Region chief minister and the mayor reported to the Senior General on accomplishment of development plans on the guidance given by the Senior General on his inspection tour of Hlinethaya Township, construction of the multipurpose buildings, event parks, car parks, playgrounds, swimming pools and public recreation facilities at Bayintnaung Park in Hlinethaya Township, holding funfairs in the park with participation of people and sanitation tasks in Hlinethaya Township.
After hearing the reports, the Senior General said he saw some work requirements in efforts to ensure the proper flow of water and the erection of lamp-posts in Hlinethaya Township. Emphasis must be placed on proper drainage systems and repairing of bridges.
The whole township must have a proper drainage system. So, work areas must be allotted in the implementation of a proper water drainage system. Pedestrian ways must meet standards in Hlinethaya Township where a large number of labourers are working in factories. Systematic plans must be adopted to ensure the greening and cleanliness of the township to create a social environment for dwellers. More plans must be implemented in Hlinethaya Township for its urban development.

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Council Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, council members, the chief minister of Yangon Region, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and the commander of the Yangon Command, inspected the Information Technology University and the Western Yangon Technological University in Yangon Region yesterday morning.
At the Information Technology University in Hline Township, the Senior General heard reports by Rector Dr Saw Sanda Aye on conversion of the Yangon University of Computer Studies to the Information Technology University, training session, sending students to pursue post-graduate courses at home and abroad, attendance of students from regions and states, internship of students at workplaces, grasping jobs, submission of papers to the International Conference on Advanced Information Technologies (ICAIT), and progress in construction of the university building, while Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw gave a supplementary report.

Yangon pagodas overflow with pilgrims on Taboung full moon day

THE full moon day of Taboung is one of the significant religious days for Buddhist people, and the Shwedagon Pagoda and other pagodas in Yangon were also crowded with visitors on the full moon day of Taboung.
The pagoda board of trustees of the Shwedagon Pagoda organized alms donations and the 2,613th anniversary Buddha Pujaniya Taboung festival for the successful completion of the Maha Pathana recitation event at the Shwedagon pagoda.

The pagoda board of trustees of the Shwedagon Pagoda organized alms donations and the 2,613th anniversary Buddha Pujaniya Taboung festival for the successful completion of the Maha Pathana recitation event at the Shwedagon pagoda.
First, the Sayadaws and attendees offered alms meals to the pagoda on the victory ground at the northwest corner of the pagoda.
During the event to mark the successful completion of Maha Pathana recitation, Ovadacariya Sayadaw Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Dhamma Bhandagarika Soonloon Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sunada delivered the Nine Precepts to the congregation, comprising Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, regional ministers and other devotees.
The officials donated offertories to Sayadaws and monks and shared the merit gained. They also offered day meals to Sayadaws.
Similarly, the religious events marking the full moon day of Taboung took place at Botahtaung Pagoda, Maha Wizaya Pagoda, Sule Pagoda, Thiri Mingala Kaba Aye Pagoda, Sacred Buddha Tooth Relic Pagoda (Yangon), Lokachantha Abhaya Labhamuni Buddha Image on Mindhamma Hill, Shwephonepwint Pagoda, Kyaikkasan Pagoda, Meilamu Pagoda and Koehtetkyee Pagoda. — Ko Ko Zaw (MNA)/KTZH
