  • Traffic chaos clogs France’s Mont Blanc tunnel

During the traditional summer exodus, Alpine tunnels are particularly congested at the Mont Blanc Tunnel heading towards Italy, where motorists are patiently enduring the gloomy weather.

More than 4 million motorists are expected across the entire Vinci Autoroutes network and more than 1,000 km of traffic jams were recorded on Saturday. Authorities have classified the motorway as "black"—the highest level of traffic alert—in the outbound direction, as the annual summer crossover between July and August holidaymakers reaches its peak.

Hundreds of dancers have demonstrated their skills simultaneously at the Awa Odori festival in the western Japanese city of Tokushima.Full-scale outdoor performances started at several venues on Tuesday. As the climax of the day, “so-odori” dancing was staged at one of the sites, involving 1,700 dancers from 15 groups showing off their superlative skills. Swiss pilot Raphael Domjan beated the altitude record for a solar-powered electric plane on Tuesday in a flight that took him soaring to 9,521 metres, according to his team.The SolarStratos plane made the landmark flight from Sion airport in southwest Switzerland, taking advantage of warm air thermals to go beyond the record that has stood for 15 years. The data will be sent to the World Air Sports Federation governing body, which will decide whether to validate the new record.mitv
