One of five miners trapped in Chilean mine found dead: Codelco
One of five miners trapped after a partial collapse at the world's largest underground copper mine has been found dead, Chile's state-owned Codelco group announces. The collapse took place July 31 at the El Teniente mine, 62 miles south of Santiago, following a "seismic event."
According to General Manager of Codelco El Teniente mine, human remains and identification efforts will be carried out by the prosecutor and the Public Ministry. Codelco's Human Resources Vice President said, the rescue efforts will be accelerated and the families will continue to be informed and will receive all the support, care, and compassion they deserve in the face of this sad news.
