Efforts are being made to irrigate the crop fields in catchment area of SinThay diversion weir that was damaged by the Mandalay earth-quake.

On 3rd August, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung together with Deputy Minister U Bo Bo Kyaw and officials, made an inspection tour to observe the monsoon paddy cultivation and arrangement for water supply in Tatkone Township, Nay Pyi Taw.

First, the Union Minister observed the dredging of sand in the temporary canals, construction of embankment, and arrangements for water supply, in which he instructed to complete works implementation in a set period and to use effective design for new diversion, ensuring long-term durability.

He then inspected the site designated to build new SinThay Diversion Weir. Efforts are being made to complete the New design in August and approval process will be continued. Since the Head Work of SinThay diversion weir was damaged due to the powerful Mandalay earthquake, arrangements are underway to irrigate water for monsoon and summer paddy cultivation in irrigated area through the construction of new facility. 

Before and during the construction of new diversion weir, irrigated water will be supply for the fields in the catchment area with temporary plan. The Union Minister and party also visited KinTha Dam where they inspected the water inflow, storage and strength of the dam.
