  • Oslo welcomes Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nihon Hidankyo on 'Hiroshima Day'

An event was held in the Norwegian capital of Oslo to honor last year's Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Nihon Hidankyo. The organization represents atomic bomb survivors and advocates for the abolition of nuclear weapons. The event took place at the Nobel Peace Center on Wednesday, August 6, coinciding with the day the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima 80 years ago.

The assistant secretary general of Nihon Hidankyo, Wada Masako, was just 1 year old when the nuclear bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. She shared with the audience stories of the devastation she heard from her mother.

Hundreds of dancers have demonstrated their skills simultaneously at the Awa Odori festival in the western Japanese city of Tokushima.Full-scale outdoor performances started at several venues on Tuesday. Swiss pilot Raphael Domjan beated the altitude record for a solar-powered electric plane on Tuesday in a flight that took him soaring to 9,521 metres, according to his team.The SolarStratos plane made the landmark flight from Sion airport in southwest Switzerland, taking advantage of warm air thermals to go beyond the record that has stood for 15 years.
