BAGAN Archaeological Museum located in NyaungU Township in Mandalay Region has received more than K48 million from the admission of local and foreign tourists over nine months of the current financial year, according to the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Bagan branch) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture.
From April to December, 45,072 domestic travellers and 300 international travellers, totalling 45,372 visited there, said an official.
“Admission fee is K1,000 per local while K10,000 per foreigner, so total income is more than K48 million. Tourist arrival is larger on weekends and usually peaks in December,” he said.
At present, there is the arrival of 100-200 local visitors per day regularly and more on weekends. Except Monday and public holidays, it is open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm daily and free admission is provided for children under 12 years old, monks and nuns.
Bagan Archaeological Museum received over K71.9 million from 94,951 local and foreign tourist arrivals last year. — MT/ZS
