  • Myanmar, China, and Thailand representatives discuss rapid repatriation of foreign nationals

Through certain neighboring countries, including Thailand, individuals have unlawfully entered Myanmar through border routes. Illegal online gambling, online fraud, and criminal activities were carried out in Myawady, Shwe Kokko and KK Park area. From January 30 to February 17, 2025, a total of 1,303 foreign nationals were identified and detained.  

The authorities responsible for legal procedures are currently working to transfer these detained foreign nationals to their respective countries following the appropriate legal procedures.

As such, the foreign nationals who unlawfully entered Myanmar are being swiftly dealt with in accordance with the law. Member of the Central Committee for the Supervision of Repatriation Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Aung Kyaw Kyaw, and other responsible officials, along  with the Deputy Minister of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, H. E. Mr. Liu Zhong Yi, and officials and General Secretary General Trisak Indararusmi of Thailand's Ministry of National Defence, and officials, arrived in Myawady this morning.

The collaborative team from the three countries is investigating and ensuring the proper detention of foreign nationals who entered via illegal routes into Myawady, Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas. They are reviewing the current detention conditions, personal information, and records of the individuals involved.

Representatives from the three countries met in Myawady and held a coordination meeting to facilitate the rapid transfer of detained foreign nationals to their respective countries. The meeting also focused on implementing a system to combat online fraud (Telecom Fraud) across the three countries, working together to eliminate telecom fraud zones in the Myawady region. Discussions were held on how to ensure a smooth process for transferring individuals involved in online fraud (Telecom Fraud) to their respective countries and resolving any issues related to thismatter.

The government is actively investigating and effectively taking action against illegal online fraud activities. In addition, efforts are being made to prevent and combat illegal online gambling and financial fraud activities in the border regions of Myanmar. This includes cooperation with organizations from neighboring countries and international bodies to continue the investigation and enforcement actions.
