Trump official says US willing to replicate Panama migrant deal
President Donald Trump's Homeland Security chief on Tuesday praised a US agreement with Panama on migrant repatriation flights and said Washington was ready to replicate it with other countries. Under an agreement signed last July by the administration of Trump's predecessor Joe Biden, Washington finances the repatriation of irregular migrants who enter Panama overland from Colombia.During a visit to the Central American nation, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the United States was willing to pay other countries to do the same. More than 2,300 migrants have been deported from Panama on around 50 flights so far under the agreement. Noem observed the departure of one such flight Tuesday carrying Colombian migrants. She also met President Jose Raul Mulino and other senior Panamanian officials.mitv

UK to buy nuclear-carrying F-35A fighter jets
The British Royal Air Force will soon carry nuclear bombs again as the government plans to buy a dozen US-made F-35A fighter jets capable of holding them.Prime Minister Keir Starmer unveiled the plan on Wednesday at the NATO summit in the Netherlands, calling it "the biggest strengthening of the UK's nuclear posture in a generation." He said his country will join NATO's shared airborne nuclear mission, which involves allied aircraft in Europe being equipped with nuclear bombs. Seven other countries are part of it, including the US, Germany and Italy. The purchase is in line with the government's new national security strategy that it released on Tuesday.mitv

Trump says US will speak to Iran next week
US President Donald Trump said the war between Israel and Iran is over and the United States plans to have talks with Iran next week. He was speaking Wednesday at a news conference during the NATO summit in The Hague.Indicating his administration will talk to Iran next week, Trump said, "they may sign an agreement”.The US and Iran have been negotiating on Tehran's nuclear program since April. But no official talks have been held since Israel launched attacks against Iran on June 13.Meanwhile, there were no reports of major attacks or damage in either Israel or Iran on Wednesday. Trump had said both sides would stop fighting following their ceasefire agreement. But the Israeli military said on Tuesday night that it intercepted two drones "most likely from Iran" that were making their way toward Israel.It also said on Wednesday that its air force had intercepted a drone that was "apparently" launched from Yemen and did not enter Israeli territory. It remains to be seen whether the ceasefire will be maintained.mitv

Peace Forum 2025 kicks off
The Peace Forum 2025, themed “Towards a new nation of peace and prosperity through the integration of peace, elections and development”, was held at the Mingalar Thiri Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.It was attended by National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae and committee members, retired Tatmadaw officers, representatives of JMC, political parties, NCA-signatories and non-signatories, participants in peace processes, technicians, intellectuals, directors-general of ministries concerned and organizations, rectors of universities, representatives of international and local NGOs and other observers, totalling 259 participants.Speaking at the event, State Administration Council Member Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, who is also Chairman of the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee, said that recognizing the real situation of the nation, every citizen must participate in the nation-building process with unity and cooperation. Challenges encountered must be addressed through mutual discussion and coordination among the citizens, combining efforts on matters that are agreeable and negotiating solutions for those that differ. The national interest must be regarded as a common goal.The participation of international friends who can offer valuable advice and assistance in the peace process is also a significant support for the process. To hold a free and fair election by the end of this year and to implement the national solidarity and peacemaking processes before and after the election, the forum will bring trust-building processes, practical strategies and positive suggestions.He continued that the people-centred pathways should be created by reviewing the proper ways to strengthen the foundations for a united and developing Myanmar through free, fair and transparent elections as per the theme of the forum. He also mentioned the four objectives of the Peace Form- to enhance peace dialogues, to build trust and cooperation, to address humanitarian assistance and socio-economic challenges and to strengthen international collaboration for State stability and development.Committee Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing briefed on the intention and agenda of the forum.Mr Deng Xijun, Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Jaideep Mazumdar, Indian Ambassador (Retd), Mr Sihasak Phuangketkeo, Vice-Foreign Minister of Thailand (Retd) and Russian Professor Aleksandr Gelyevich Dugin made remarks.The eight foreign guests discussed different topics: “Opportunities for Peacemaking during and after Elections” and “Processes for Addressing Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Natural Disaster Recovery”. — MNA/KTZHSource: GNLM
