The 25th EU-China summit starts in China
The 25th EU-China summit has started in Beijing, China. President of the European Council, António Costa, and President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, representing the EU, met Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of EU-China bilateral relations, the summit will be an opportunity to engage with China at the highest level and to underline the importance the EU attaches to a fair and balanced relationship with China.
The focus of the summit will be the state of bilateral relations and global geopolitical challenges, including other matters. The leaders will discuss ways of ensuring a more balanced, reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade relationship, as well as areas of shared interest such as climate change, biodiversity and advancing the green transition. The EU will also advocate the need to protect and uphold multilateralism and the rules-based international order.
