In unusual move, US holds direct talks with Hamas over hostage release

The United States has disclosed that it has been holding direct talks with the Islamist group Hamas over the release of US hostages detained in the Gaza Strip. This is a highly unusual move as Washington regards Hamas as a terrorist organization. US news site Axios and other media outlets on Wednesday quoted sources as saying that Adam Boehler, serving as US envoy for hostage affairs, held meetings with Hamas officials in recent weeks in Doha.

South Korean fighter jet accidentally drops bombs outside training area

The South Korean military says an Air Force fighter jet accidentally dropped eight bombs outside a training range, damaging buildings and injuring civilians.

The incident happened in Pocheon, about 40 kilometers northeast of the capital Seoul, shortly after 10:00 a.m. Thursday, local time.

Firefighters say two homes and a church were damaged, and seven people were injured, two of them seriously.
