US President Donald Trump said he has reached a tariff agreement with the European Union. He met European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland on Sunday.

Trump had said Washington would impose a 30 percent levy on goods from the EU starting on August 1. But, he said the rate will be set at 15 percent. Trump explained that automobiles and nearly everything else will be subject to that rate. But, he said the 50 percent tariff on steel and aluminum imports will remain unchanged.

Russian President Vladimir Putin underscored the navy's pivotal role in protecting Russia's sovereignty and national security, as he oversaw its maneuvers, codenamed "July Storm," during Russia's Navy Day celebrations on Sunday. Following the maneuvers, Putin extended his congratulations to the navy personnel at the Admiralty in St. Petersburg, praising their dedication and skill in showcasing the navy's combat readiness.

People gathered on Saturday at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record. As part of “Osaka week”, 3,946 people from 62 countries dressed in summer kimono known as Yukata and ethnic costumes and danced for the record-breaking traditional Japanese dance along with the expo’s official theme song. The new record for the largest Bon dance exceeded the previous one by more than 1,000 people set in Yao City in Osaka Prefecture in 2017.

Thousands of colorful drones display lit up the night sky over the capital Male’ Saturday. The state-of-the-art new terminal at Velana International Airport was officially inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The grand ceremony featured a special report on the airport’s long history and developmental journey, followed by a special theatrical performance. The performance was followed by hundreds of drones displaying key highlights of Maldives’ independence and the historical journey.
