Rural Development: Solar mini-grid electricity and water supply
A solar mini-grid electricity and water supply distribution system project was commissioned into service for Kanseik Village, aimed at boosting rural socio-economic development through the Mekong–Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Special Fund.
The project’s achievement ceremony took place at the General Administration Department in Dedaye Township on Sunday morning. Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe, Ayeyarwady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win and Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, Ms. Ma Jia attended the event, along with other officials.
After a video showcasing the project’s implementation was screened, the Union Minister delivered a speech. He emphasized the head of state’s national policies and action plans aimed at creating a sustainable economy to ensure continuous socio-economic development, benefiting all people.
The Union Minister added that the recently completed project is the third small-scale power system funded under the MLC Special Fund. The system features a 99-kilowatt solar power supply with a 120-kilowatt backup diesel engine, along with a purified drinking water supply equipped with water meters.
Implemented jointly with the Union Budget and constructed by Sandisolar Renewable Energy Development International Company Limited, the project cost over 0.78 million US dollars, including contributions from the village and the company.
Upon completion, the project will benefit 150 households, enabling small-scale production and businesses to increase family income and support the village’s socio-economic development. The Chinese Ambassador then provided an update on China-Myanmar cooperation under the Mekong-Lancang Project.
The Chief Minister also outlined the ongoing regional development initiatives and shared future plans. The Company’s Managing Director then detailed the current status of their project, while a local resident gave words of thanks for the project.
The Union Minister and party then toured the photo booth on implementation of the project. After the ceremony, the Union Minister met with the villagers for nearby villages, and explained the ministry’s efforts for rural development and poverty reduction efforts. He urged all to strive for boosting production for socio economic progress of rural community.
He then visited the Rice Mill and Bran Oil Factory in Thetkaekwin Village of Dala Township of Yangon Region and heard reports on work progress. Upon the reports, the Union Minister instructed for quality control of the products to be compete in the international market.
