The 15th Akha Traditional Swing Festival was held with vibrant festivities on August 14 in Ufude Village, part of the Mongtwam Mountain Range group, in Monghsat Township, Eastern Shan State.The festival began with an opening address by Akha ethnic leader U Min Nyo, followed by ceremonial swing riding led by Triangle Region Commander Major General Soe Hlaing and attendees. As a symbol of commemoration, cherry trees were also planted during the ceremony.This was followed by formal opening of the ceremony, and speeches by the officials who emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and promoting peace and unity through traditional festivals. Cash donations were also made during the ceremony. The festival continued with traditional Akha dances and songs, performed by ethnic Akha men and women as well as other local ethnic groups from across Eastern Shan State.The Akha Swing Festival symbolizes unity, peace, and prosperity, serving as a time to pray to ancestors for abundant food, harmony, and protection. The ritual swing riding is not only a joyful celebration but also a proud preservation of Akha cultural heritage.
