I am on official State visits at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, and President of Belarus Aleksandr Gregoryevich Lukashenko. Since these are official invitations, the visit is highly beneficial for our country. During the trip, we had extensive discussions and collaborations in various sectors between our two nations.
In particular, we focused on economic cooperation. Moreover, we emphasized expanding tourism sector. We also discussed cooperation in education, science and technology, healthcare, sports, culture, law, and defence. Moreover, I had the opportunity to explain Myanmar’s political developments, which were fully acknowledged and accepted by both nations. Next, I also explained the situation regarding the upcoming election. When I explained it, they expressed their support and commitment by sending representatives to observe the election process.
The best part is that this meeting helped build a great deal of trust between both sides. I have seen that not only Russia and Belarus but also the people in those countries have developed a keen interest in Myanmar. This is a positive sign for the future of our country. Moreover, I have stated that we will hold a multiparty democratic election, and we are committed to making this happen. If we truly desire a multiparty democratic system, we should not just engage in arguments but rather work together in collaboration. If we do that, our country is bound to succeed. I firmly believe in this, and I am confident in saying so. To the people, this is my stance—I want to say this clearly. I strongly believe that everything will be successful. I also wish good health and prosperity to all. May everyone work together to achieve progress in all aspects. If you truly believe in a multiparty democracy, I urge everyone to cooperate and participate. Thank you very much.

CATHOLIC cardinals agreed on Monday to begin a conclave on 7 May to elect a new pope, and highlighted clerical sexual abuse as one of the key challenges facing Pope Francis’s successor.So-called “Princes of the Church” under the age of 80 will meet in the Sistine Chapel to choose a new religious leader for the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics.The date was decided at a meeting of cardinals of all ages early on Monday, two days after the funeral of Francis, who died on 21 April aged 88. The cardinals outlined the most pressing Church challenges including “evangelization, the relationship with other faiths (and) the issue of abuse”, the Vatican said.“There was talk of the qualities that the new pontiff must possess to respond effectively to these challenges,” it added. The Church’s 252 cardinals were recalled to Rome after the Argentine’s death, although only 135 are eligible to vote in the conclave.They hail from all corners of the globe and many of them do not know each other.But they already had four meetings last week, so-called “general congregations”, where they began to become better acquainted. Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Council Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, Union ministers and the Nay Pyi Taw Council chairman, yesterday afternoon inspected the National Museum (Nay Pyi Taw) damaged by the Mandalay earthquake.The Senior General and party viewed round the building of the library, the room where literary works of Alinka Kyawswa Sithu Tekkatho Myat Thu are kept, the electronic library and reading room, Wunzin Min Yazar hall, bookshelves, palm leaves and folded paper section, loss and damage to the library, and systematic keeping of books in genres. The Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture and officials reported on the loss and damage to the library in the earthquake.After hearing the reports, the Senior General stressed the need to systematically keep books in the library in genres and set records. Repairs must be done for damaged parts. The library must keep good literature on real historical events in the political changes of the State. Officials need to systematically and continuously preserve, protect, and pass Myanmar’s political history down from generation to generation.The Senior General presented cash support for librarians through an official. At Uppatasanti Pagoda, the Senior General assessed the conditions where cracks, subsidence, and damage had occurred in some areas of the sacred pagoda’s platform and religious structures. Officials reported damaged parts at the pagoda.In his response, the Senior General instructed officials to swiftly repair damaged parts of the terrace of the pagoda, retaining walls and some religious buildings. The repair process must be done as much as possible before the rainy season. The government will provide necessary assistance for the repair processes. It is necessary to urge well-wishers to make donations for the repair and renovation of the religious buildings at the pagoda.The Senior General paid homage to the Buddha image in the cave of the pagoda and fed white elephants at the shed. The stake-driven ceremony for Uppatasanti Pagoda took place in 2006. As the cornerstones were laid on 440 bored piles systematically, just a few parts of the pagoda were damaged in the earthquake. As some cracks and subsidence occurred on the terrace of the pagoda, the government plans to swiftly repair them.
