ACCORDING to the observations at 4:30 pm MST today, monsoon will be strong to vigorous over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, due to the easterly waves and westerly waves, rain or thundershowers are likely to be fairly widespread to widespread in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, Bago, Magway, Sagaing, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi Regions and Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Rakhine and Shan States with likelihood of regionally and isolated heavy falls during today evening to 22 June 2025. Occasional squalls with rough seas will be experienced in off and along Myanmar Coasts.
Surface wind speed in squalls may reach 35 miles per hour. Wave height will be about 10-12 feet in off and along Myanmar Coasts.

THE United Nations said Monday it was drastically scaling back its global humanitarian aid plans because of the “deepest funding cuts ever” — leaving tens of millions of people facing dire straits.The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said it was seeking $29 billion in funding for 2025 compared to the $44 billion originally requested in December, in a “hyper-prioritized” appeal.Since US President Donald Trump returned to office in January, the United States — the world’s top donor — has heavily slashed foreign aid, causing havoc in the humanitarian sector across the globe.Drastic US funding cuts have had dramatic consequences for emergency aid, vaccination campaigns and the distribution of drugs to fight AIDS.Other major donor countries have also cut back their contributions in the face of an uncertain economic outlook. “Brutal funding cuts leave us with brutal choices,” OCHA chief Tom Fletcher said in a statement. “All we ask is one per cent of what you chose to spend last year on war. But this isn’t just an appeal for money — it’s a call for global responsibility, for human solidarity, for a commitment to end the suffering.”‘Cruel’, ‘heartbreaking’ In late April, while visiting a hospital in Kandahar in Afghanistan, Fletcher warned: “Cutting funding for those in greatest need is not something to boast about... NEW DELHI, June 16At least four women were killed and six others injured Monday in an explosion in a firecracker factory in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said.The explosion took place in Atrasi village of Amroha district, about 402 km northwest of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.Senior police officer in Amroha, Amit Kumar Anand, told media that four women were killed on the spot, and their bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Six other women injured in the accident were taken to the hospital.According to Anand, the firecracker factory was a licensed unit.Officials said the victims were working in the factory at the time of the explosion.The blast caused massive damage to the structure located in the middle of an agricultural field. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing underscored that the current government in its tenure has been supervising tree growing and conservation of forests in order to notably minimize deforestation impacts yearly.The first monsoon tree-growing ceremony in 2025 in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory took place at Yanaungmyin Forest Reserve in Dekkhinathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning, attended by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who planted a Gangaw tree (Mesua ferrea).Speaking on the occasion, the Senior General highlighted that the forest coverage reached 42.92 per cent of the country in 2015 compared to 42.19 per cent in 2020 but the preliminary report in 2025 stated 42.15 per cent forest coverage of the nation, showing some deforestations.In its tenure, he continued that the current government has been supervising tree growing and conservation of forests in order to notably minimize deforestation impacts yearly.The Senior General stressed the need for relevant departments, local authorities and organizations to set their missions to have 50 per cent of forest coverage of the nation as a national duty in order to ensure more forest ecosystem services.Read more: https://www.gnlm.com.mm/myanmar-currently-retains-42-15-of-forest-coverage/
