Nearly 40,000 seafarers from Myanmar leave the country each year to serve on international vessels, and around 20,000 are officially certified to work abroad, according to Captain Soe Min Aung, President of the Myanmar Seafarers’ Federation (MSF). He remarked at the International Seafarers’ Day ceremony held yesterday morning at the National Museum in Dagon Township, Yangon.
“Since 2020, MSF has handled over 300 complaints related to workplace injuries and other issues. For those who are injured, we provide medical treatment, salary entitlements, and insurance benefits. We also address problems such as unpaid wages and difficulties in the workplace,” said Captain Soe Min Aung. “MSF is committed to supporting seafarers by addressing their concerns and helping to improve their quality of life”.
The event was attended by Dr Ko Ko Naing, Director-General of the Department of Maritime Transport, along with the MSF president, executive officers, and members of the Myanmar Seafarers’ Federation. — Arkar Lin/MKKS
