The Seikku Cho Cho Publishing House releases two new books in June 2025. They are the collective short stories, volume I and volume II, by Sayagyi Dagon Taya. The literary works of Sayagyi are considered classics. His writing style, structure, presentation, choice of words, and sentence construction are innovative, unlike those of other writers. His works are masterpieces for those who seek the full richness of aesthetic literature.When the entire nation praised Bogyoke Aung San, the writer boldly wrote about him under the title “Aung San (or) The Wild One” in his ‘Yokponhlwa Aphwet Anwet’.In the preface of the novel ‘May’ by Sayagyi Dagon Taya, Thakin Ba Hein, who established the Burma Communist Party, stated, “He is a revolutionary. He goes against the conventional writing styles and creates something new.”The renowned poet and writer Sayagyi Dagon Taya lived a life dedicated to politics, literature, poetry, music, painting, and other forms of art until the age of 94. According to a recent survey, the total number of short stories he wrote between 1919 and 2013 amounts to 107. These short stories, created by the many historical eras he lived through, certainly carry the scent and essence of those times.Especially in today’s literary landscape, where such elements have become quite rare, Sayagyi’s short stories often depict the beauty of nature, scenic landscapes, and the wide vistas experienced during travels. These vivid portrayals draw readers into vast open fields, allowing them to feel as though they were breathing fresh, clean air and immersing themselves in a deep sense of peace and tranquillity.Readers can read the belief of Sayagyi “in many of his stories, one can find critical reflections, whether related to political ideologies or artistic forms. However, these were presented exactly as they were, without editing, because I believed it was important to record both the times and my age as they truly were. I never abandoned the literary principle that one must portray the historical era in which they live. I held onto it even more firmly and consistently.” A total of 107 short stories have been republished into two volumes: Volume I and Volume II. This current book not only compiles previously published collections such as Sabei Oo short stories, Collected Short Stories (1937-67) – Kyayeik Pann Nu, Rain and Earth, and Water and Lotus, but also includes three newly discovered stories. According to the producer, any additional stories found in the future will be incorporated as well.The ‘Independence’ story in this book starts with “Man is by nature a political animal.” Aristotle.The white clouds with silver linings were drifting lightly across the blue sky. The cool breeze was gently blowing. When Ba Maw suddenly turned and entered the zoo gate, he was immediately overwhelmed by the thought that this must be the true beauty of nature. The soft green grass was fresh and lush. The trees looked moist and alive. The earth lay in quiet radiance, fragrant and aglow. The sky was bright. In his sense of hearing, he heard the music being played softly by a nature fairy. He felt as though he was beholding a painting. These sensations stirred a quiet smile in his gentle heart — only they could cool him like the waters of joy.In the second preface included in this book, Sayagyi wrote: “Literature is something that constantly changes. It flows continuously like a stream. The style and structure of my expressions from more than 50 years ago may or may not resemble today’s usage. There may be similarities, of course. The same goes for the readers. The readers from over 50 years ago and today’s young, blossoming readers may or may not share the same literary appreciation.
