A baby falcon of the rare hornbill, a precious bird species that is a natural heritage and should be valued and protected, has been successfully born in the Yangon Zoological Garden.
The hornbill is a representative bird of Chin State and is included among the species that should be protected and preserved, according to Yangon Zoo.
The female hornbill entered the nest to give birth on 9 March 2025, and the first sounds of the chick were heard on 10 April. On 17 June, the mother and the chick left the nest and began communicating with the outside world, Yangon Zoo stated.
The birth of the baby bird is a success in line with the zoo’s stated goal. During the breeding period, the male hornbill never left the female, regularly feeding and caring for her. Their habits are so exemplary that humans can learn from them, according to the Yangon Zoo. — MT/ZN
