President Trump officially enacted the bipartisan HALT Fentanyl Act on July 16. The law permanently classifies all fentanyl-related substances—including analogues and tweaked versions—as Schedule I drugs and mandates a minimum 10-year federal prison sentence for trafficking over 100 grams of such substances. Trump called this “one of the more important things that they will ever sign” and emphasized it would target major traffickers to curb the overdose epidemic.
