Canada to file WTO claim against Trump tariffs

OTTAWA will file a World Trade Organization claim against US President Donald Trump’s tariffs and also seek redress under a regional free trade deal, a Canadian official said Sunday.
“The Canadian government clearly considers these tariffs to be a violation of trade commitments that the United States has taken,” the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told a briefing.
After weeks of threats, Trump on Saturday signed off on 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian imports except energy resources, which will be hit with a 10 per cent levy.

CHINA’S manned deep-sea submersible Jiaolong and research vessel Dayang Yihao (Ocean No 1) are set to complete major upgrades in preparation for deep-sea exploration missions this year, according to the country’s oceanic affairs administration.
Jiaolong, named after a mythical sea dragon, is capable of diving to depths exceeding 7,000 metres. The China-made underwater ship has explored waters in the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean.

Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary seeks ASEAN Heritage Park status

THE Bago Region Government has revealed that efforts are underway to designate the Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary in Bago Township, Bago Region, as an ASEAN Heritage Park.
In support of this designation, initiatives will be implemented to raise public awareness about the sustainable use of Moeyungyi Lake’s wetland resources and ecosystem services.
Additionally, community-based conservation efforts will be enhanced to ensure the long-term preservation of the natural ecosystem.

National Library (Yangon) to host precursor event for Children’s Day

ON 8 February, the National Library (Yangon) in Pabedan Township, Yangon Region, will hold a children’s library activity programme and a photo exhibition in celebration of Children’s Day, which is observed on 13 February.
This event will be jointly organized by the National Library (Yangon) and the National University of Arts and Culture (Yangon), with the attendance of students from basic education schools in Pabedan Township.

Indawgyi Lake: A biodiverse haven for amphibians, reptiles, and fish

The Research and Development Division of the Department of Fisheries found over 80 species of amphibians and reptiles and 90 species of fish inhabit Indawgyi Lake in Mohnyin Township, Kachin State.
