MYANMAR nationals won four first prizes in the Muse-Ruili Cross-border Marathon, according to a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.

 Security forces accused of torching village in Yinmabin

MALICIOUS media outlets intentionally spread fake news, claiming that security forces torched the houses in Myothit village of Yinmabin township, Sagaing Region, on 5 January. 

According to a security official, security forces conducted security measures in the village and its vicinities to curb destructive actions of terrorists who launched armed attacks and arson attacks in townships and villages. 

Iran condemns US official’s threat of attacking nuclear facilities

POWERFUL tremors shook Nepal’s capital Kathmandu just before dawn on Tuesday, an AFP reporter said, as a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck a remote Himalayan region in Tibet in China.
The US Geological Survey said the epicentre of the quake was in China, but buildings shook in Kathmandu, more than 200 kilometres
away, with officials saying they were checking for damage.
Areas around Lobuche in Nepal in the high mountains near Mount Everest were also rattled by the tremors and a series of aftershocks.

Nearly 50 people killed in Gaza Strip due to Israeli strikes in past day-Health Ministry

At least 49 people have been killed, and 75 injured in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip over the past day, the Gaza Strip's Health Ministry said on Mon-day. 

"Over the last 24 hours, the Israeli occupation carried out three mass killings of families in the Gaza Strip. Hospitals received 49 fatalities and 75 injured individuals," the statement read. 

Overall, since the escalation of the conflict in October 2023, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 45,854, with more than 109,000 people wounded, the ministry added.

40 million could die from antibiotic resistance

Antimicrobial resistance could claim 40 million lives by 2050 if left unchecked, UK Special Envoy on AMR and England’s former chief medical officer, Sally Davies, told the Observer on Sunday.

Over 1,600 industries registered in the current financial year

A total of 1,607 industries have been registered with the Small- Scale Industries Department under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development at the current financial year 2024-2025 beginning 1 April.

Registered small-scale industries are classified into 13 business types including food, garment, consumer goods, house-hold goods, printing, mineral, agriculture and equipment-related businesses. 

Alcohol should have cancer warning label: US surgeon-general

THE United States’ top government doctor on Friday called for health warnings on alcoholic drinks to highlight that they cause cancer and urged a reassessment of daily consumption limits due to the risks.
Surgeon-General Vivek Murthy said that the connection between alcohol and cancer has been known since the 1980s, with mounting evidence reinforcing the dangers. Yet, mandatory warning labels fail to address the health threat.

US federal judge OKs NYC congestion pricing plan

A US federal judge in NewJersey on Friday dismissed a last-minute attempt to block New York City’s congestion pricing plan, allowing it to take effect Sunday.
The decision means that starting from Sunday, drivers entering Manhattan below the 60th Street during peak hours will face a congestion fee of nine US dollars.
