Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen welcomed guests in Rome for a summit aimed at boosting African economies, in a bid to curb illegal migration to the EU.

Meloni has prioritized cutting irregular immigration and launched a 5.5-billion-euro plan targeting 14 countries including Ethiopia, Ivory Coast and Senegal to support industries from energy to health care. Meloni's plan aims to strengthen trade relations between Italy and African nations in the energy sector particularly.

A Myanmar delegation led by State Administration Council member, Deputy Prime Minister, and Union Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office General Tin Aung San attended the 9th China-South Asia Expo and the 29th Kunming Import and Export Fair in Kunming, from June 17 to 20 at the invitation of the Yunnan Provincial Government.

Upon arrival in Kunming on June 17, the delegation was welcomed by the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan People’s Congress, and the Myanmar Consul-General in Kunming.

The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission issued a statement Thursday condemning recent violent attacks on educators and students as the new academic year begins.

The statement expressed deep concern over incidents including the killing of a school principal and her husband in Nyaung-U Township, the abduction of a high school teacher and female students in Sidoktaya Township, and other targeted attacks on education professionals in Natmauk and Wetchoat villages.
