The heatwave that began on Friday, the second to hit France this summer, continued on Sunday 10 August to cover almost the entire southern half of the country. French weather forecaster Météo-France placed 42 departments under an orange heatwave alert and seven under a yellow alert. Temperatures are expected to rise further on Monday.  The city of Montpellier has opened an air-conditioned shelter for homeless people.
