Cambodian Memorial Sites inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List
Cambodian Memorial Sites have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, bringing the country's tangible heritage properties on the prestigious list to five, said a statement from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts released Friday midnight.
The inscription was made on Friday during the World Heritage Committee's 47th session in Paris, France, the statement said. The inscribed Cambodian Memorial Sites included the former M-13 prison, located between Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Speu provinces, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, both in the capital Phnom Penh, the statement said.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said the inscription of "Cambodian Memorial Sites" not only honors the physical sites, but also recognizes Cambodia's painful history."
