The ongoing round of Gaza ceasefire negotiations taking place in Doha, Qatar, has entered a “critical moment”, said a report by a Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement (PIJ) backed TV channel on Sunday.

The report cited a Hamas senior official saying the ceasefire talks are currently in a difficult phase, with the upcoming hours of talks being crucial. The Hamas source claimed mediators are working hard to advance the negotiations, but Israel’s “intransigence” could lead to the collapse of the talks.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed on Sunday that it was Hamas that rejected the ceasefire agreement, noting that it seeks to remain in Gaza in order to rearm and launch further attacks on Israel, a situation he cannot accept. Netanyahu stressed that Israel must remain focused on the goal of rescuing hostages while completely dismantling Hamas to ensure that the Gaza Strip no longer poses a threat to Israel.
