Chairman of State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing visited Taungoo on Saturday. They left Nay Pyi Taw along Yangon-Mandalay old road, observing the agricultural works and social status along the road. In Taungoo, the Senior General and party viewed the Kaytumady Old City and maintenance works along the city wall and moat.
He instructed for the continue research works for ancient city wall and moat and reconstruction of entrance bridge to the old city if possible. The Senior General later arrived at Taunggoo Railway Station and heard reports on construction of detour rail road, plan for new railway station, and demarcation of railway and motor road and work progress.
The Senior General instructed for long term durability of the projects, meeting the set standards. The Senior General and wife and party later took a train ride on board the Nay Pyi Taw-Yangon No.8 DEMU Up Train from Taungoo to Yangon.
Along the route, the Senior General assessed the durability of the rail road, condition of rail coaches and convenient arrangements for the commuters as well as the agricultural works along the route. The DEMU passenger trains have been in operation along Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw rail section since 28 February 2025. It takes about five and a half hours, providing convenient commuting service to the public with reasonable price.
