The incident occurred while the victim was walking to a farm near his village. When he reached the Kine Nge-Bant Pyin Village Commutable Dirt Road, he stepped on an explosive device planted by a so-called PDF terrorist faction, causing it to explode and resulting in his injuries, it is reported.
Similarly, at 4:30 PM, a report stated that an explosion occurred near Ma Yan Kyin Village in Tharbaung Township of Ayeyarwady Region. When security personnel promptly arrived at the scene for further investigation, it was discovered that U Maung Maung Gyi (60 years old), a resident of the village, was heading to a cashew plantation yard near his village. When he reached the yard, he stepped on an explosive device planted by a faction of AA terrorists along with so-called PDF terrorists, causing it to explode. As a result, he sustained shrapnel injuries and was transported to Tharbaung Township Public Hospital for medical treatment, it is reported.
 Similarly, at 6:30 PM, a report stated that a man with shrapnel injuries was admitted to Township Public Hospital in Thanbyuzayet Township of Mon State. When security personnel promptly arrived at the Hospital for further investigation, it was discovered that the victim was U Nandar Tun (43 years old), a resident of Wal Kha Mi Village in Thanbyuzayet Township. The incident occurred while the victim was heading to a rubber plantation yard near his village. When he reached the yard, he stepped on an explosive device planted by a faction of KNU members who support terrorism, along with so-called PDF terrorists, causing it to explode and resulting in his injuries, it is reported.
 It has been reported that the security personnel are investigating the culprits of the acts of terrorism from the above incidents to take effective action in accordance with the law.

North Korea has denounced a joint US-South Korea military exercise scheduled for next week, saying, "The enemies will pay a horrible price."

The US and South Korean militaries announced on Thursday that their annual joint exercise Freedom Shield will be held for 11 days starting next Monday. The drill is based on simulated emergencies on the Korean Peninsula.

The North's state-run Korean Central News Agency said in a commentary on Friday that the exercise "will bring a storm of aggravating the security situation to the Korean Peninsula."

KYIV: A Russian missile strike on a hotel in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hometown overnight killed three people and injured 31 with about half of them in serious condition, authorities said on Thursday (Mar 6). 

In addition to the hotel, 14 apartment buildings, a post office, almost two dozen cars, a cultural institution and 12 shops were damaged, authorities said. 

Moscow has kept up its bombardment of Ukraine even as rhetoric builds in Washington and Moscow on potential talks to halt the more than three-year war.

Russia has sharply criticized French President Emmanuel Macron's remarks that he is open to using France's nuclear deterrent to protect its European allies.

The French leader proposed the nuclear umbrella during a televised speech on Wednesday. He also mentioned the idea of deploying European peacekeeping forces to Ukraine after a ceasefire is reached.

The Russian Foreign Ministry pushed back in a statement on Thursday, saying Macron's comments are a "threat" to the country. It said Paris has ambitions to become the "nuclear patron of the whole of Europe," almost replacing the American one.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also accused Macron of acting like Napoleon. He said, "It was also very strange to hear that Macron in a very aggressive manner, continuing the work of Napoleon, who wanted to conquer Russia."

Meanwhile, a former president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, said he understood Macron's reasoning. NHK spoke with Barroso in Tokyo on Thursday.

Barroso noted that France is the only country in European Union that has nuclear weapons and able to use this deterrent. He said that while he is against using the weapons, unfortunately it is sometimes necessary to provide this guarantee.

Barroso referred to an emergency meeting in Brussels of European leaders. They broadly agreed to gather up to 800 billion euros, or about 860 billion dollars, for security. Barroso said, "It's not only important to spend more, invest more, but to do it more in a European collective way."

The South Korean military says an Air Force fighter jet accidentally dropped eight bombs outside a training range, damaging buildings and injuring civilians.

The incident happened in Pocheon, about 40 kilometers northeast of the capital Seoul, shortly after 10:00 a.m. Thursday, local time.

Firefighters say two homes and a church were damaged, and seven people were injured, two of them seriously.

The fighter jet was reportedly taking part in a joint drill with the army. The South Korean military is investigating.

ADEN, Yemen, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi forces announced Tuesday that they successfully intercepted a U.S. MQ-9 reconnaissance drone over the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah.

Yahya Sarea, the Houthi military spokesperson, said on the social media platform X that the drone was downed while "violating Yemeni airspace and conducting hostile operations" in Hodeidah province.

Sarea said it is the 15th aircraft neutralized by Houthi forces during what they term the "ongoing Battle of the Promised Liberation and the Sacred Jihad," a campaign they describe as supporting Gaza and Lebanon.

No immediate comment was available from U.S. military or diplomatic sources regarding the Houthi claim.

The Israeli army on Tuesday killed a senior Qassam Brigades commander and another Palestinian during a large-scale military operation in the eastern neighborhood of the northern West Bank city of Jenin.

According to Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses, the Israeli forces, backed by large reinforcements, surrounded several residential buildings in the eastern neighborhood of Jenin, which led to violent clashes that resulted in the killing of Aysar al-Saadi and another young man.

Hamas mourned the death of Aysar, accusing Israel of resorting to "assassinations after failing to confront the resistance on the ground."

In a statement, the Israeli army confirmed the killing of Aysar, alleging that he was responsible for planning attacks against Israeli targets. The statement also claimed that the second Palestinian killed "posed a threat" to Israeli forces in the area.
