The head of the UN's de-mining programme in Khartoum said Sudan needs "hundreds of teams" to clear the country of mines after two years of fighting. "There are only around 10 survey and clearance teams, which are operating, and only dealing with the most critical areas," Mohammad Sediq Rashid told a press conference.

A UN senior official for Afghanistan also warned that number of Afghan returnees risks inflaming tensions, many having no social ties in the country, with more than 2.2 million arrivals since the start of the year.
