  • El Salvador says it dismantled newly forming gang of students

The government of El Salvador said it thwarted an attempt by fifty high school students to form a criminal gang. "They have managed to capture 46 individuals, including 14 minors, who were organizing to create a criminal structure that threatened to disrupt the peace and security that they have worked so hard to consolidate in country," said Rodolfo Delgado, El Salvador's attorney general, at a press conference.

The gang operated in three public schools and aimed to fill the "criminal power vacuum" left by gangs cornered by Bukele’s security campaign, according to the attorney general.
