Multiple wildfires swept across Greece on Friday, breaking out amid powerful seasonal winds that fueled blazes in several regions. The fires prompted mass evacuations, inflicted heavy property damage, and left at least one person dead in Attica, according to local authorities.

The most severe blaze was reported in Keratea, about 35 kilometers southeast of central Athens. Authorities issued multiple emergency alerts and ordered the evacuation of nearby settlements, including parts of the coastal resort area of Palea Fokea. Fires were also reported in other parts of Greece.

A fire broke out in a forested area in Karabük, Turkiye on Thursday evening. The fire was fought until nightfall, when operations were paused, and resumed again on Friday morning. Numerous teams have been dispatched to the scene to extinguish the blaze. As a precaution, one village has been evacuated. The fire in the area is being tackled with 1 plane, 5 helicopters, 121 vehicles, and 511 personnel. The 80-household evacuated as a safety measure.

Despite water bombers fighting to put out France's biggest wildfire this summer, vegetation continues to burn in southern France's Aude department on the third day of an unprecedented fire. Some 2000 firefighters race to contain the blaze, which has spread across some 17,000 hectares. So far, thirteen people have been injured, two of them seriously. Weather conditions had become more favourable, after two days of strong and changing winds made the blaze's progress difficult to predict.

Canada sent troops and coast guard personnel to its easternmost province on Thursday to confront wildfires that have forced hundreds to evacuate, as the country endures one of its worst fire seasons on record. Wildfires across the vast country this year have already burned 7.1 million hectares of land, an area roughly the size of Ireland, according to official data updated Wednesday.

Provincial officials have estimated the number of people impacted by the latest evacuation orders at about 900.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a heavy rain emergency warning for the city of Kirishima in the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima on Friday. It is extremely likely that serious rain-triggered disasters, such as landslides, have already occurred in the city.

Agency officials are urging people to take actions that could raise their chances of survival. They say people should take shelter inside nearby sturdy buildings if moving to designated evacuation sites is too dangerous. They are also advising people that if going outside is risky, they should stay on the second or higher floors, and also in rooms away from cliffs and slopes.  Domestic flights at Kagoshima airport were cancelled.

The road was flooded, as Hampyeong, South Korea was battered by downpours of 82 millimeters per hour Sunday night.

After about an hour, the downtown district of Hampyeong was inundated. Submerged in water, the path commonly used by residents looks like a powerful river. Vehicles can be seen stuck or flooded around the region.

Muan in Jeollanam-do Province was also hit by downpours of over 142 millimeters per hour. This has caused water leaks in the roof of Muan Airport, forcing it to install containers to collect the leaks. Underground passages were flooded in Gwangju hit by heavy rain of 80 millimeters an hour.

In the middle of a road, people helplessly left behind their flooded vehicles. In response, the government has upgraded the operation of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to level two.
